Four plants, four records

Each monograph below carries the same botanical particulars, so two can be compared without translating between one grower's vocabulary and another's.

Everything described is a dietary supplement for adults. None of it is a medicine, and no therapeutic use is claimed for any of it.

Reading a monograph

Start at part used. Root, leaf and flower from one plant are three different materials with three different profiles, and the part is the single most common thing a label leaves out.

Then read marker. Without a named compound and a percentage, "standardised" commits a seller to nothing.

Echinacea purpurea Asteraceae · monograph one

Part used: Aerial part, cut at flowering
Grown: Our own fields, third year and older
Harvest: Once a season, by hand
Extraction: Water and ethanol, cold
Marker: Named marker at a stated percentage
Tested: Identity, marker, heavy metals, microbial

Three species are sold under the same common name and they are not interchangeable. This one is grown here and verified against a retained specimen, which is why the species appears on the label rather than only the common name.

The aerial part is used, not the root. Both are legitimate materials; they are simply different, and a label that says neither is telling you nothing.

Curcuma longa Zingiberaceae · monograph two

Part used: Rhizome, dried
Grown: Named contract growers, certified organic
Harvest: Annual, after the foliage dies back
Extraction: Supercritical carbon dioxide
Marker: Curcuminoid fraction at a stated percentage
Tested: Identity, marker, heavy metals, microbial, solvent residues

Bought rather than grown, because the climate here will not support it and pretending otherwise would be the kind of claim this site exists to avoid. The growers are named on request.

Heavy metal testing matters more for rhizomes than for most materials, since anything in the soil concentrates in the part that sat in it.

Silybum marianum Asteraceae · monograph three

Part used: Seed
Grown: Our own fields
Harvest: Late summer, once the heads have dried
Extraction: Ethanol, followed by concentration
Marker: Named marker complex at a stated percentage
Tested: Identity, marker, heavy metals, microbial

Seed only. The aerial part of this plant is not the material anybody means, and it is cheaper, which is exactly why the part is stated.

Harvest timing is unusually narrow. Cut early and the seed is immature; leave it and the heads shed into the field.

Zingiber officinale Zingiberaceae · monograph four

Part used: Rhizome, fresh
Grown: Named contract growers
Harvest: Annual
Extraction: Fresh material, processed within two days of arrival
Marker: Pungent compound fraction at a stated percentage
Tested: Identity, marker, heavy metals, microbial

Processed fresh rather than from dried material, which produces a different profile. Neither is better in the abstract; they are different, and the monograph says which you are getting.

The two-day window is the binding constraint on this line, and it is the reason it is made in short runs.

How to order, and how to take it

Orders go to +1 (312) 680-2003 or to care@lunascentoils.com during Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm Eastern. Name the monograph and the size; we confirm the lot in stock, its marker figure and the total, carriage included, before anything is charged.

A single charge is taken, and the card details are not kept. A confirmation reaches you immediately; tracking follows by email at collection. No part of that correspondence goes out by text.

Suggested use

Follow the suggested use printed on the bottle. Where bottle and monograph disagree, the bottle governs and the monograph is corrected.
Adults eighteen and over.
Do not exceed the suggested use.
Discuss it with a qualified healthcare professional before you begin, and certainly where you take prescription medication, are managing a condition, or are pregnant or nursing.
Cease taking it and seek advice if anything troubles you. Observe the expiry.
