A plant is not a brand name.
GAIA HERBS, INC. grows medicinal herbs, identifies them against retained reference specimens, and extracts them on site. For every plant we work with there is a monograph on this website: the botanical name, the part used, the growing conditions and the extraction, written out.
The reason is that a common name is close to useless. Half a dozen unrelated plants share the name most shoppers know, and the species you actually receive is decided long before the label is printed. A monograph removes that ambiguity in one line.

Identity
How we know the plant is the plant
Misidentification is the oldest failure in this trade and it is almost never deliberate. Four checks stand between a field and a bottle.

| Reference specimen | A pressed, dated specimen of every species we grow is kept here. New material is compared against it rather than against a photograph. |
| Macroscopic examination | A related species substituted at the point of harvest, which is common where two plants grow side by side. |
| Marker profile | Right species, wrong chemotype. Two plants of one species grown in different conditions are not interchangeable. |
| Part verification | Root sold as aerial part, or the reverse. Different parts of one plant are different materials. |
Where any check is inconclusive the material is rejected rather than downgraded into a blend. It is the cheapest decision to describe and the most expensive to make.
Limits
What a monograph is not
A monograph is a botanical and manufacturing record. It is emphatically not a treatment guide, and there is no traditional-use section on this site for that reason.
- It does not tell you what to take. That is a clinical question about you rather than a botanical one about a plant.
- It does not carry a claim. Preparations in the Monograph Range range are dietary supplements and we do not say they diagnose, treat, cure or prevent anything.
- It does not promise a result. Responses vary from person to person and none is promised here.
- It does not replace a clinician. Nobody here knows what else you take, and that is precisely the information the question turns on.
- It does not cover safety in pregnancy or with medication. Those belong with a qualified healthcare professional and nowhere else.

A text when a monograph is added
New monographs and bottled harvests are the only two things worth interrupting anybody for. That is all this list carries, and it is optional.
- Marketing messages only. A monograph added, a harvest bottled, occasionally an offer.
- Order paperwork is never texted. Confirmations and despatch notices arrive by email.
- Up to 4 messages per quarter; frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
- US mobile numbers, eighteen or over. Landlines and numbers held abroad cannot be entered.
- Reply STOP to end them. Reply HELP for our details. The removal form does the same.
- The number stays here. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
